"I had my expectations of how it would go, but I hadn't prepared for just how transformative it would be. " - Avalon
"After following MDWMN for a while, I was thrilled at the opportunity to sit down with Nikki and share my own personal experience living with mental health issues. I had my expectations of how it would go, but I hadn't prepared for just how transformative it would be. Meeting Nikki, I immediately felt like I was connecting with an old friend I hadn't seen it a while. She is compassionate, understanding, and intuitive on when to respond or offer support. When I began to share my journey, I became really consumed with panic and struggled to find the words to begin. Nikki jumped in and offered to share her story first which - whether intentional or not - is something I will never forget. At any point that was challenging Nikki was open in sharing a similar lived experience, or was able to provide comfort by just validating my feelings. I ended up sharing things I had never shared with anyone before and I wholeheartedly trusted her with this information. I jokingly said afterwards that our time together was better than therapy and totally meant it. It was empowering to stand in my own story without blaming myself or digging for answers to why. The photos Nikki took afterwards complemented our session beautifully. I felt vulnerable, proud of my progress, and comfortable to show up exactly as I was - and I think this translates in the photos. It really felt like a huge milestone in my self discovery journey and I am truly grateful for that."
